ARCH 357 Lecture 6: SUMMARY DUE NOV. 22ND
Document Summary
This reading, the seven principles of energy efficient architecture, is exactly what the title states. Author doug kelbaugh first discusses the collusion between architecture, energy, and the environment. Following that, he introduces some ideas about nature and the influence it has on architecture. Kelbaugh starts off optimistic, explaining how easy it actually is to reduce energy waste in today"s society without sacrificing architectural styles (kelbaugh, 1). He also talks about natures influence on design, saying, nature is a loose paradigm that has inspired designers and artists in different ways (2). He then jumps into the principles, discussing the building materials we use; he says that we should use materials that are in their natural state rather than creating materials (3). Additionally, our buildings should be better insulated so we waste less on heat/air conditioning (3). He also introduces the idea of facing buildings to the south to reflect light and heat (3).
