1. Explain changes that occur in heart rate and EKG after activation of the:
Parasympathetic nervous system
Heart rate decreases (Ach release)
PR interval increases on the EKG (P wave to QRS)
The R-R intervals are larger since heart beats are less rapid (decreased)
See a more elongated relaxed EKG representing a decreased heart rate.
Sympathetic nervous system
Heart rate increases (Nor-epinephrine release)
PR interval decreases on the EKG (P wave to QRS)
The R-R intervals are smaller since heart beats are more rapid (increased)
See a more rapid (lots of peaks) on the EKG representing an increased heart rate.
