Turning a question into a scienti c question - conceptualization. Conceptualization: turning a theory into a hypothesis: the process of asking a clear question, turning an idea/thesis into concepts. Take away #1: you can"t answer a question you know what it means. Conceptualization: de ne the speci c concepts we are talking about. Nominal de nition: what we decide a concept means. Must be so clear and concrete that you could tell me what data would falsify it. A good hypothesis should include a comparison group, otherwise we won"t really be able to test it later (students who do vs students who don"t) Take away #2: there are many ways to think about a single concept. Divide complex concepts into simpler dimensions: ex: political participation could mean many things: Voting, donating money, writing a senator, etc. Take away #3: conceptualization involves dividing something into it"s constituent parts. Complex concepts can often be conceptualized in multiple ways.
