Energy flow • What is exergy – units? ­ The work potential (“useful energy”) of a reservoir of energy ­ Joules  • Have a rough idea on sources of global exergy fluxes, their orders of magnitude and  which ones we are able to capture to what degree. ­ Exergy exists in many different types of reservoirs from chemical potential stored in  hydrocarbon bonds to the kinetic energy of the wind.  Humankind accesses and processes  the exergy in these reservoirs in order to exploit energy resources. The amount of exergy  in the universe is being constantly used up. • How much energy is transported by the gulf stream per given time unit – is that a force,  energy, power? ­Gulf stream = 1550 TW = 1.5 million nuclear power plants ­power? • Which types of energy from the earth (conventional, alternative) are originally from the  sun, other celestial bodies, earth thermal, Earth nuclear? ­  • What are the three major types of energy of the world’s primary energy consumption,
