Greater than the population of the us, about the same as the european. Around 4% of the world"s total population. This is still a small fraction of the numbers that once lived, and the reason for that is they have been victims of ethnocide/genocide for a couple of centuries. This uses an image to tell a story about the progress of american development, example of attitudes of us government at that time. People in washington dc used this concept of manifest destiny to justify their policies with respect to our native american population. The image shows angel columbia in the center, representing the us and the image of progress. In the far left we see a native american and some wild animals like bears and buffalo fleeing into the darkness. Indigenous people in the americas lost 90% from first contact to the early. The settler and pioneer had had justice on this side.
