Document Summary

Smooth elastic tissue on ends of a bone. Reduces wear on bone, absorbs shock, lubricates, distributes load. Fibrous capsule- very fibrous collagen tissue holding bones together. Synovial membrane- lines the joint cavity and secretes synovial fluid for. Cartilaginous joint- slight movement, lack a joint cavity. Synovial joint- predominant for movement; allow free movement. Skeletal muscle structure is hierarchical- myofibril -> fascicle, etc. Thick filament- myosin- a band (centered on the m line) Titin- third filament that holds the sarcomere together. Stronger muscles = bigger muscles = more sarcomeres. Titin changes over time to benefit the sarcomere. Ligament- bone to bone- bent collagen fibers make it stronger. Calcium to troponin, troponin moves tropomyosin to expose myosin binding sites, allowing cross bridges to form and create a powerstroke. Most joints and muscle amplify displacement and speed at the expense of force and torque.
