Document Summary
Could forbid removing the kidney before death. Parfit: a person can be harmed after she dies. On wednesday discussion (which i skipped), they went over satz"s paper that considered the asymmetry thesis. Satz"s reason for thinking that we ought not to treat reproductive labor as a commodity something to be bought and sold: commercial surrogacy reinforces. It reinforces the assumption that it"s ok to control women"s sexuality and reproduction. It reinforces stereotypes about the proper role of women in the reproductive division of labor entrenches a traditional division of labor . She does say a few more things about her proposal. What"s distinctive about her argument is that it appeals to a contingent fact, in this case it being that gender inequality. She does suggest that perhaps with proper regulation, worries that she has about such a market could be addressed. What she says is that she thinks the regulation will contribute to the problem as to address it.
