PHYSIOL 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Superior Vena Cava, Aorta, Extracellular Fluid
Document Summary
We need the cv system because we are very big. We have the pulmonary circulation and the systemic circulation (which is all the organs other than the lungs) At the lungs, you get rid of co2 and get oxygen. Blood is pumped from the heart through the pulmonary circuit. It will then return to the heart and be pumped into the heart and go everywhere else. Cardiac output is the total amount of blood that is pumped per minute. 5l/min is pumped out of the left side of the heart that goes to the systemic circulation and also ejected from the right side of the heart to the pulmonary circulation. The outputs should be the same under normal conditions. That blood will flow through these tubes that take the blood close to the tissues to bring oxygen and nutrients and remove waste products and co2.
