Document Summary

Lecture 26: renal regulation of na+ and k+ The amount that is excreted is the amount filtered minus the amount reabsorbed. Many transporters on the proximal tubule that are reabsorbing na and on the ascending duct. In terms of excreting na, it will change with any one of these things. The amount reabsorbed and gfr are the regulated variables. When the system changes how much na is being excreted, it also changes how much water is being excreted slide 3. This graph tries to show you that overtime what"s going to happen in the system volume if you change na intake. You start at the beginning at the lower graph. Individual is ingesting 100meq a day daily and excretion of na will equal that because na in=na out (this is how you maintain balance) If this individual on day 3 doubles their na intake and maintains it for a week, intake went up but excretion will not instantaneously change.
