Lecture Notes 3/11/14 • For exam need to know basic essence of personality disorder. • Psychotic Disorders o Delusions  “False” often “bizarre” beliefs that do not change despite evidence (rigid)  Persecutory  Referential  Erotomanic • Think people are in love with you when they are not  Grandeur • Think you’re better than you actually are  Nihilistic • People think they are dead  Control • Other people are controlling them  Thought insertion • Can put thoughts inside your head  Thought withdrawal • Someone can remove your thoughts o Hallucinations  Sensory perception-like experiences that occur without an external stimulus  How hallucinations occur • Direct stimulation (surgery) • Uncontrolled neural firing (seizures) • Reduced frontal cortex integration (fatigue) • Reduced external sensory input o Meditation o Drugs o Fatigue o Disorganized thinking  Loose associations • All sentences are fully formed, but they don’t have anything to do with each other  Word salad • May have full sentences, but the sentences don’t make sense  Neologism • Words that don’t exist o Disorganized behavior  Grossly disorganized Beh Catatonia o Negative symptoms  Flat affect • Absence of emotion  Avolition • Absence of motivation  Alogia • Absence of speech  Anhedonia •
