We don"t notice a watch"s noise until it is quiet and that"s the only thing we can focus on. Subliminal messages may shape attitudes without conscious awareness. Mental events that can be brought to our awareness. Things like your 5th grade teacher"s name. Repressed memories because of some traumatic event. Most run on a 24 hour cycle. Almost all are set for sleep at night. Non rem/nrem - non-rapid eye movement sleep. Light sleep, small irregular brain waves, muscles relax. High peaking waves, sleep spindles, burst of electrical activity. Deep sleep, delta waves, slow with high peak. Cycle 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, then rem sleep. Active brain waves, increased heart rate and blood pressure, limp muscle state. Infants appear to be hardwired for more rem sleep.
