Found 3 predictors of a positive assessment by historians. Contingency theory of leadership - leadership effectiveness depends both on how task-oriented or relationship-oriented the leads is, and the amount of control and influence they have on the situation. Task-oriented - better in low and high situational control level. Relationship-oriented - better in moderate situational control level. Transactional leadership (hollander) - leader who gains compliance and support from followers primarily through goal setting and the use of rewards and punishments. Transformational leadership - leader who inspires followers to transcend their own needs in the interest of a common cause. Power - capacity to influence our own outcomes and those of others. Status - differences in respect and prominence, influences power. Dominance - behavior enacted with goal of acquiring power.
