Soc ­ Lecture 10/01/2013 Method Option 1: Ethnographic Observation Choosing: Site that will make for an interesting sociological analysis, public site, people are interacting,  multiple repeated interactions of a similar type, focused/bounded site, somewhere you’re free to take notes,  not already super familiar with When you’re there: be unobtrusive, observe what’s naturally happening, observe what people do and say,  take notes when you’re actually there, allowed to talk to people if that’s natural, observe as much as  possible, descriptive How to take good field notes: better notes, and more notes, the more you’ll have on hand when you write  the paper, write as much as you can, after the field side write up the notes with more detail ­skating, hospital waiting room, sister to sister events Unit 3 Identity and Inequality: Who is what and who gets what?
