Yes, especially when there is no balance and the images and stereotypes are so persistent. You see enough of these movies and you start to believe what you see. We"re also lazy as a society, and we don"t want to do the work to change the way we think. We seek out things that validate the opinions we already have, and when our opinions get validated we get confirmation. It"s not like people see them once and then they disappear, they are played over and over, there are merchandising, it"s part of the circulation of images in our culture. The media likes to portray somalis as pirates and terrorists. No one reported on the terrorist bombing that happened in somalia on saturday (10/14)
