Flight in france was hijacked in 1985 by people claiming to be from plo. A chart of hate-crimes as a result of these events. The system will always treat you like this, they associate you with these events whether you do them yourself or not. This has been going on for decades. The usual suspects: media, lack of education, nativism, us involvement in arab world. 1991 us invasion of iraq to liberate kuwait. Arabs didn"t choose to go to war with iraq, americans did, and yet. Arabs were still attacked and hated on because the us was at war with an arab country. 1985 first documented spike in hate crimes against arab americans in response to events in arab world. Because of us military involvement, conflation of patriotism/anti-arab imagery and rhetoric. In 1990, before iraq"s invasion of kuwait, there were 4 hate crimes reported against arab americans.
