Lecture #3: our sexual selves: biology and the social construction of women"s sexuality. Sex is everywhere, but there is also a great deal of silence around sexuality. Venus: today she is seen by many as the epitome of colonial exploitation and racism, of the ridicule and commodification of black bodies. Non-heterosexual women"s sexuality: seen as for the male gaze, a lot seen from the media, highly sexualized, stereotypically feminine women, performative. Good sex to bad sex : good sex, virgin/purity, heterosexual, monogamous marriage, heteronormativity, the belief that people fall into distinct and complementary genders (man and woman) with natural roles in life. What we"re left with is women who kiss and even fall in love with other women but, at the end of the day, are.
