Document Summary

Arthur kornberg: showed that dna is simple enough to replicate and it has all the information needed, he replicated dna in a test tube. He put dna polymerase (enzyme to make dna) You need deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate (datp, dctp, dgtp, dttp) He takes all of these and puts them in a test tube to replicate dna (acts as template) This experiment shows that dna replication is in semiconservative. They used bacteria because it"s replicated every 20 minutes. All dna will now contain n15 (parent population) They remove the bacteria and put it into normal media with n14. They saw that all the dna is n14 & n15 (intermediate dna form) They let it replicate one more generation and they now see bacteria that has n14 dna and bacteria with intermediate dna forms. Replication of dna: 2 major steps, break the hydrogen bonds between the 2 parent strands.
