Right wing media have convinced the american public that american mainstream media is very liberal/elite. Trump appeals to impoverished white americans in the south which is the total opposite of him. He thinks being politically correct is deceitful. He accuses the media of being corrupt and the problem. Sanders had the same critization but he was seen as too far fetched. Trump knows how to be so outrageous that the media and people get addicted to it. He was the guy you loved to hate. Rather than examining media effects on beliefs, it focuses on our beliefs about the effects of the media. Rather than media affect perceptions it assumes that perceptions of the media trigger behavioral effects. One of the strongest influences of media is the presumption that they do indeed have influence on just other people and not ourselves.
