Document Summary

No such thing as society? rather, individuals acting in their own interest. Margaret thatcher there is no such thing as society, there are just individuals and their families individuals needs and desire. Market place view greed works, what binds people together. Advertising talks to us as individuals, not as citizens. Individuals needs and desires, not about things we need to solve collectively issues such as the environment, use of non-renewable resources, global warming, climate change all need collective effort security natural disasters. Market place, advertising, asks us to think about ourselves the market appeals to the worst in us and discourages what is the best about us (compassion, caring, generosity) Stories of culture, how we understand the world, look through that lense, will stresss some things while keeping other things out of focus. We all live downstream, usually it was just those who lived down the river had to worry, but now everyone does.
