Gauri is unwanted by subhash"s parents; they believe she is unfit for a mother and want their grandchild for themselves. Subhash wishes to take guari to america with him for her own good; clean slate: character analysis. Udayan wasn"t arranged to marry gauri vs. The parents has an arranged marriage: parents didn"t approve; shows their favoritism for subhash because he agreed to have an arranged marriage, parents do not care for gauri but want their grandchild. Shown to not particularly care for her unborn child: udayan did not want a child until political reform took, themes and connections place. Udayan became so much more radical that he no longer could. Tension of the brothers involvement politically vs. direct disconnection (left the land) Careful, conflicted, reserved, protective, self-oriented, reclusive vs. resilient, determined, devoted, aware, selfish . Didn"t work; udayan gone makes him non-existent.
