As species richness and species evenness increase, diversity increases. To find out if all species are covered in a study area, we establish sampling program and species accumulation curve. Landscapes are made pp of a patchwork of different community types. Dispersal of immigration, abiotic factors, and species interactions. Global biogeography- the six biogeographic regions correspond roughly to earths major tectonic plate, sections of moving crust. Continental drift evidence can be found in the fossil record and in existing taxonomic groups. Vicariance: populations are separated via a geographic barrier to gene flow or dispersal. Continental drift and separation of continents are probably the most dramatic vicariant phenomenon. Formation of the isthmus of panama separated oceans. Species richness increases with the area of the island. Number of species of reptiles and amphibians on various islands. Species richness decreases with distance from the mainland.
