Just marking time putting in their hours. Workers are mostly teenagers working for pocket money. Employees can work their way up and eventually own a franchise. Companies can"t control franchise wages and working conditions. Paying workers an hour would make burgers expensive. People sometimes assume that we are all alike everyone has a house, car, and family. But she shows that everyone is different and has their own story. There are no magic survival skills that these low wage workers have figured out.
