Description
Carruther’s Argument Recap: The Two Arguments The Argument from Humane Institutions (AHI): • P1. If cocoamone farming is wrong, then factory farming is wrong. • P2. Cocoamone farming is wrong. • C. Factory farming is wrong.  Th     Argumen     for Marginal Cases (AMC):  • P1. If SRHA farming is wrong, then factory farming is wrong. • P2. SRHA farming is wrong. • C. Factory farming is wrong. Responses: • There is a morally significant difference between these two options. • There is nothing wrong with cocoamone/SRHA farming. • Accept that factory farming is wrong. Carruthers tries to argue that both of these first premises are wrong. They are not morally on a par Carruthers: "Contractualism Reject P1 of both arguments." • Seems like contractualists would accept P1 and reject P2?! A Rawlsian Agent is: • Rational • Selfinterested • Behind the veil of ignorance •  Rawlsian Contractualism:  You should "act in accordance to the rules that Rawlsian agents  would agree to." Rawlsian Contractualism and Animals/SRHA • A Rawlsian Agent is:  ◦ Rational ◦ Selfinterested ◦ Behind the veil of ignorance ◦  Rawlsian Contractualism:  You should "act in accordance to the rules that Rawlsian agents  would agree to." • •  R.
