Make quick decisions based on almost complete ignorance: soft recognition, people use signals to make choices. Parties then reinforce their signals, they know how important they are. Public figures that people follow: attentive public. Some people pay attention to things, and some do not. Example, if someone avidly follow global warming: education/income.
