Document Summary
Parties: who is involved in the case, what are their roles, in a supreme court case the parties are a petitioner and a respondent. Facts: what happened in the case, a general summary, make sure to not make it to long but at the same time include all important details. Issue: what is the question they are trying to answer in this case. Reasoning (majority: how did the court decide. Dissent: did any justices disagree, if the justices did disagree, what was their reasoning. Rule: what did the court determine with this case, should basically answer the question you wrote for the issue. Massachusetts and several other states filed a petition that the. Epa should regulate co2 and other greenhouse gas emissions in cars. Epa refused to act on the issue. State superior court sided with the epa that they did not have to act. Case then went to the supreme court. Supreme court decides in favor of massachusetts.
