Developmental Psychology, Lecture on March 1 st Cognition – EF The executive function: Portion of the information-processing system that coordinates various component processes in order to achieve some goal. Manifestation of EF:  Metacognition is the child’s awareness and knowledge of cognitive processes.  Judgment bias is the tendency to be influenced by inappropriate information at the expense of important and perhaps more relevant facts. (Can be related to probability, groups, stereotypes and emotional beliefs). EF components: Attention control and cognitive flexibility,  Sustained attention.  Selective attention.  Resistance to interference. (distractibility)  Shifting attention. Working memory Inhibitory control, (motor and cognitive)  Prepotent responses.  Highly salient stimuli. Integrated EF components: Examples;  Dimensional change
