Able to perceive object as unchanging even though stimuli may change. Once we lock onto particular interpretation of a stimulus we tend to stick with that perception. Ex. when a person walks farther away they appear to be smaller. Expectations are a big determinant of how we perceive a scene. Ex. stereotypes to believe is to see. Two main sources of information binocular cues rely on the fact that we have two eyes. Each eye produces different images because eyes in different location the cues are the ones in which our brain imposes structure on environment gestalt rules. Cues in which brain makes use of information in the environment. Retinal (binocular) disparity images between two eyes differ the larger the difference between two images the retinas receive the closer the object is to our eyes. Relative height things higher in our field of vision are perceived as further away. Relative motion things further away move more slowly.
