Hallucination: an experience involving the apparent perception of something not present. Precipitant: factors that cause or trigger the onset of a disorder, illness, accident, or behavioral response. Controversy pertaining to john hinckley: he assassinated ronald reagan and then pleaded insanity and was determined not guilty. Psychiatrists vs. psychologists: psychiatrists: people with degrees in medicine (mds) who receive specialized advanced training in diagnosing and treating people with psychological disorders, psychologists: health care professional offering psychological services. Culture-bound syndromes: recurrent patterns of abnormal behavior or experience that are limited to specific societies or cultural areas.
