Sexual Dysfunctions:
As many as 31% of men and 43% of women in the U.S suffer from such sexual dysfunction in
their lives
Human sexual response can be described with a cycle of 4 phases:
Desire
Excitement
Orgasm
Resolution
Disorders of Desire:
Male hypoactive sexual desire disorder
Female sexual interest/arousal disorder
For at least 6 months
Significant distress
Disorders of Excitement:
Female sexuale arousal disorder (frigiditity)
Male erectile disorder ED (impotence)
Characterized by persistent inability to attain or maintain an adequate
erection
10% of male population
At least ½ of all adult men have erectile difficulty during intercourse at
least once
Biological Causes-
lack of hormones
Sex drive can also be lowered by some medications
Disorders of Orgasm
Early ejaculation
30% of men will experience this
Delayed ejaculation
8% of male population
Female orgasmic disorder
Persistent delay in or absence of orgasm
Biological/Psychological Causes:
Medications and illegal substances
Trauma
Paraphilias:
Sexual urges, fantasies, or behaviors that involve:
