Disruptions in attachment security: early attachment security does not guarantee that the relationship with the parent will always feel secure. Things that distract a parent from parenting, such as illness, job problems, divorce, remarriage: by the same token, relationships with parents can become more secure over time. Beyond attachment security: attachment is about helping the child to feel safe and secure, but children also need to establish their autonomy when they are ready. Requires trust in order to risk conflict with primary care giver. Thus, attachment and autonomy go hand in hand. The terrible twos: problem behaviors in year 2, beginning around 18 months (if not earlier) Children become increasingly assertive both verbally and nonverbally: temper tantrums no!!
