Hand written notes vs. laptops: retain more with handwritten notes due to cognitive process, written record and not copying by verbatim laptops not allowed. What is an experiment: testing a hypothesis dependent on a population with different variables, typically in a lab setting. We will be conducting surveys for this class. Basic idea: we all know a lot of different things and gain that information in lots of ways the belief that this in is accurate is typical and is due to the social scientific method. Social scientific method: can be verified to prove accuracy. Typically, one come into information through trust of people"s knowledge. Flaws in this system: very flawed ideas in how the world operates and human behavior. Reality tv gives viewers a window to an unknown world, despite how true or false it is. Mistakes one could make while watching this show: creates over-generalizations, such as that teen pregnancy is common.
