Women, Gender & Sexuality Obama’s Second Inaugural Address Seneca Falls (women’s rights) First organized women’s rights convention in New York from July 19-20, 1848. Convention sat Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The Declaration of Sentiments was presented. Most talk was for women to attain the right to vote. The first step in the women’s suffrage movement. Selma (black rights) Three marches in the American civil rights movement. Attempted to march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. (1965) The first march was on March 7 th otherwise known as “Bloody Sunday” protesting Jimmie Lee Jackson’s death and voting rights. 600 marched but were attacked by police with clubs and tear gas.
