WOMENSST 187 Lecture : Institutionalized Movements
Document Summary
Women, gender & sexuality, lecture on february 4th. Can get a lot of things done. Suffrage in 1920/all efforts focused on this. There is a difference between feminist groups and women"s groups. When an issue becomes structured for a movement it becomes structured for gender. Violence is a structured agent of talking about sexuality. Wendy brown and janet halley argue that with institutionalization a juridical view has benefits and downfalls. 1) changing a law is good, you got a chance you want 2) but, the law itself ends up determining the movement. They rectify the law and the overall outcome. Society do not ever refer to society as powerful.
