Every 4 or 5 days and up to 72 hours prior to surgery. Rh positive or negative means presence or absence of agglutinogen. If rh is present - causes immune response. 2 names for this: hemolytic diseases of newborn and erythroblast fatalis. Antibodies get into baby blood, clump, damage to fetus (clotting) causes death. 72 hours before/after birth- mom gets rhogam. Mom s body does not recognize rh cells. Nk cells and cytotoxic cells release chemicals (cytokine: neutrophils- attack bacteria. Merge with phagosome and enzymes get into phagosome. Respiratory burst- radicals come out of lysosome ( happens in cell) Line up and get into tissues via diapedesis (margination or pavementing) Attach to bacteria - easy for phagocytes. Proteins : complement and antibodies ( opsins) Opsonization- both chemicals facilitate phagocytic activity: nk cells - lymphocytes, have granules. Take out tumor cells/ cytotoxic t-cells and kill virus infected cells. Immunological surveillance: inflammatory response- increased blood flow and phagocyte mobilization.
