EHS 230 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Mechanical Advantage, Human Musculoskeletal System, Agonist
Document Summary
Made up of bones, tendons and muscle to help people move. Muscles act on bones and initiate joint movement. Muscle origin- 1st attachment (arm attached to chest) Muscle insertion- 2nd attachment (finger attached to hand) Antagonists- muscles that do not generally help with movement. Resistive force- comes from outside of the body and from an object comes directly from muscle. Chair is a resistive force while being pushed. Lever- stiff body part of body that acts upon applied torque. First class lever- between 2 levers produces many torques. Muscle has more freedom to move least common lever. Third class lever- is at one end close, slightly right of where second class lever is. Joints and muscles in body are 3rd class and less than 1. Ma= ratio of muscle"s moment arm to resistive force moment arm. Ma less than 1 is not efficient. To get more leverage means to increase joint and/or resistive force.
