Rate limiting enzymes: enzyme that regulates rate of metabolic pathway. Modulators of rate limiting enzymes: levels of atp and adp + pi, low levels of atp stimulate atp production, high level adp + pi stimulate atp production, high levels atp inhibit atp production, calcium stimulates atp production. Energy to perform exercise comes from interaction between aerobic and anaerobic pathways. Depends on duration and intensity of exercise: short term high intensity activities: greater contribution of anaerobic energy systems, long term low to moderate intensity: majority of atp produced from aerobic. Glycolytic production of pyruvate keeps required levels of oxaloacetate to maintain activity of beta oxidation.
