PSYCH 210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Emic And Etic, Ethnocentrism, Out-Group Homogeneity
Document Summary
In everything: culture, external influences help shape our personality, more situation than person, not innate and can not be found in our genes. I say hi, and ask them how they are; probably because i see how people do it, and do it like that too: our culture socializes personality. Interaction of 5 environmental systems: personality: interaction between yourself and the cultural environment. Individual system: the addressing framework, your individual identities, microsystem. Institutions & groups that most directly impact you; how they see you, and how you see them (interaction) Interactions between microsystems: what do your family think about your friends, exosystem. Social systems indirectly impacting you: macrosystem, culture of where you live. Large sample sizes lead to statistically significant results even when differences are small: outgroup homogeneity bias. Individualism: cultural patterns that promote emotional detachment and independence from others: collectivism: cultural patterns that emphasize social integrity and regard for in group.
