Beams (7.3) 2-22-17 Long straight member support tansverse(loads perpendicular to axis) (Could also have axial loads) Goals ● Find reactions at supports ● Find internal shearing force V, intern bending moment, M at a cut. these will vary point to point along beam ● For full picture, make sense of cuts along beam ● Find V,M ateverypoint (use "generic" cut at x, get formulas in terms of x, for V,M) → plot the shear diagram, bending moment diagram ● Find max magnitude of V,M and where these occur → need to design safe beam.
