Document Summary

Chem-2301 lecture 22 notes-chapter 7 structure and preparations of alkenes. How to create alkenes through elimination reaction. Make sure carbon chain contains both carbon atoms of double bond. Instead of hexane for alkanes, it would be hexene. Number to give the double bond, the lower number. When numbering, label it by whatever the lower number is. Or number it from right to left and use the constituent number. Given a molecule that has 2 double bonds. To demonstrate that double bond, use di as the suffix. If double bond is at the beginning or end of the chain, it"s called a terminal. If the double bond is in the middle of the chain it"s called an internal double bond. If double bond is as a substituent, called an alkenyl substituent. Parent would be named as the 6 carbon ring. 3 carbon fragment based on a propene would be called propenal substituent. Alele fragment - ch2 attached to a vinyl group.
