Smaller animals have a higher metabolic rate e. They have smaller surface area per volume as compared to larger animals. Therefore they need a high quality food source which is easy to digest. Large animals need a greater absolute amount of food. Therefore size has a pretty big effect on diet. All primates except tarsiers eat fruit simple sugars, easily digestible. Insects are a pretty great source of protein, but don"t occur in large enough of quantities to meet dietary needs. Leaves: very abundant, but not a very high quality energy source and often have toxins. Alfred russel wallace helped darwin discover natural selection, madagascar and the gai. Wallace line- between australian region and the southeast asian region. Cercopithecines- can store food in cheek pouches like fruit and stuff. Africa has the colobus monkeys and asia has the langurs. Reduced/no thumbs, though they mostly still live in trees. Except hanuman monkey, which chills on the ground.
