Notes from class day 1, decisions and machines. Improve our species in terms of better procreation. A change to the brain changes the mind, and a change to the mind changes the brain! Failure modes = vulnerabilities; can be physical, computational, etc. Occur in any engineered system (including the human brain). Tangent: psychiatry = heavily relates to the failure modes of neural systems virus. A computational failure mode would be something like a computer: hijacks machine at the entry point, or at a vulnerability. A biological failure mode can occur when brains are built wrong , such as with mutations. Neuroscience deals with neural structures, and how they perform computations. The boundary between the two is information processing, and the whole purpose or effect is to drive behavior. Operationalize = define by measurements (to make measureable) Expertise = allows someone to find the correct option quickly, not necessarily to think through the most options.
