World"s total population 4-5% in the us, but 21-25% prison population is in the us. 2. 3 million currently (largest in absolute and relative) many drug offenses, especially federal. About 1 million people currently on parole, 7. 3 million on probation. Highly racialized: african americans 35%, 5x rate incarcerated, women 2x, children arrested, by age 14, 25% have had a parent imprisoned - drugs biggest factor.
