Document Summary

Bin laden came from a group of people that was assisted/ supported by the u. s. it"s hard to take bin laden out of a belief system, but it is one piece. Terrorism is a product of globalization, failed states, and uneven power relations: suicide bombers are not marginalized oppressed losers all the time. must work unconventionally in order ful ll political aims. Nothing post 9/11 is really new: enhanced interrogation techniques (torture) is not new. Bush administration was just carrying on a tradition. camps for japanese people resulted in people dying/having their basic rights denied. There are generational shifts at work: the worldview during the cold war was the world was divided into the u. s. and its allies versus russia and their allies. Now translated into west/christianity vs radical islamic ones. America as a safe space has completely collapsed, anxiety replaces that.
