A. Name: Anders Ruth
B. Born: 1960
C. Relationship: Anders Ruth is my father who was born and raised in Sweden, but he
lived in San Francisco, CA between 1978 and 1983.
D. Item: From what I understand, San Fransisco was one of the most progressive cities in
the United States during the 1970s and 1980s, and the item I want to get to interview my dad
about is how he experienced the LBQT community and how the United States experienced it
during this time period?
1. Question 1: In broad strokes, how did you experience San Fransisco during your time
living there?
2. Question 2: What was the political views of the host family you lived with, where they
more conservative or progressive?
3. Question 3: How was the LBQT community in San Francisco viewed by you and your
friends as well as the host family you lived with, and how did their views affect your
personal views on the matter?
4. Question 4: How was the LBQT community treated by the society, namely the
government, local government, police, and other institutions as you experienced it?
5. Question 5: Today it’s broadly accepted by the United States population by being gay or
transgender and it’s legal to get married as a gay couple. Do you think that San Fransisco’s
progressiveness has helped shaping the United States from what it was to what its today?
