Celluloid - the plastic material that film is made of. It consists of all of the elements placed in front of the camera to be photographed: set- tings, props. lighting, costumes, makeup, and figure behavior (meaning actors, their gestures, and their facial expressions). It also includes the camera"s actions and angles and the cinematography. Film studies attempts to wake us up to what"s in front o fun onscreen-to make us all more con- scious of what we"re seeing and why. A shot is the basic elements of filmmaking- a piece of film run through the camera, ex- posed, and developed; an uninterrupted run image on film.
