Personality assessment- the measurement of the individual characteristics of a. What makes a good personality test: must be reliable and valid. Must specify conditions, populations, and the cultures the test applies to: developers must provide theoretical background and research evidence that the test is related to certain outcomes. Could only work for certain age groups: results must be meaningful. Do they allow us to make a judgment about another behavior: published in scientific journals. How would you know if it was true , reliable or valid . A test must be reliable in order to have validity: must be consistent to be valid, if its not we won"t know what it is truly measuring. The test must be consistent (aka reliable) Types of test reliability (need to know): temporal consistency aka test-retest reliability. Giving test a 2nd time to same person. Must be far enough to discount practice effects but close enough to discount individual change: internal consistency (item level)
