Document Summary

Most people think about self and identity first. Self-concept- the set of ideas and inferences that you hold about yourself: includes traits, social roles, schemas, and relationships, can be difficult to know yourself. We are not unbiased observers about ourselves: we are constantly evolving. Through social interactions we develop our self-concept and our evaluation of ourselves: because you get feedback from others. The 3 main parts that help us know our self-concept: physical development. Don"t think in iq, think how some are good at math and some aren"t. Evidence that we have that suggests we have a self-concept: self-awareness/self-reflection. Were capable of doing thing hence the reason we know its evidence: strictly a human characteristic. Only in chimps and orangutans: chimps who are removed from mother and raised in isolation are unable to recognize themselves. Lack of social experience may prevent normal emotional development including self-recognition. Self-reflection is part of self-concept development: birth-1 year.
