PSY 247 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Vocational Rehabilitation, Etiology, Family Therapy
Document Summary
Schizophrenia: positive symptoms- symptoms that are added to the psychosis/experience. Psychosis is made up of two things: delusions- gross misrepresentations of reality. Think that something is happening but it really isn"t. Delusions of grandeur- thinking you are super important. Ex: papa prim thinking he was the king of england. Delusions of persecution- believe that someone is out to get you and your family. Can have a mixture of persecution and grandeur. Some believe other people can hear their thoughts in their head. A really scary thing for these people: hallucinations- seeing/hearing things that no one else can see/hear. Hallucinations can affect any of the 5 senses. Hear voices, like they believe there is someone talking to them outside their head: these voices tell you how horrible you are and how you should go kill yourself. Mainly hear voices but their could be other sounds.
