Document Summary
Intrinsic rewards (intrinsic motivations)- acting out of our own desires and by our own choice doing things that are fun or satisfying to us: ex: exercise. We may do it because of extrinsic rewards at first but then it becomes intrinsic: enjoy task more, increase our well-being, and perform better. Self-determination theory emphasizes responsibility, growth, and the actualizing tendency. 5 postulates of humanistic psychology bugental: 1) we can"t be reduced to components. We are more complex: 2) we have a uniquely human context, 3) our consciousness includes an awareness of oneself in the context of other people. Aware of the situation, whose around, what"s going on: 4) we have choices and responsibilities, 5) we do things for a reason, we seek meaning, value, and creativity. Sometimes we need to focus on the meaning and value of things we do, be in the moment.
