Participants: initially, you must determine how you will collect your sample. What are your options: you also need to determine how many participants will be in your sample. Manipulating the iv: construct the operational definition. When would it be used: strong manipulations are often necessary, especially early in the research process. It may help clarify if a relationship does indeed exist: as always, cost is also a factor. How often is it used: behavioral. These are recordings of responses of the body: multiple measures increases confidence in results, sensitivity of the dv must be considered. Floor effect: again, cost of the measures is always a strong consideration. How might this be applied: placebo. What happens if we find out that a treatment has a positive, perhaps life altering, effect: hawthorne effect, experimenter expectations. Other considerations: debriefing could allow researchers to learn what participants were thinking during the experiment.
